你有没有GP (General Practitioner, 类似家庭医生)? 如果没有, 你应该马上去Launceston General Hospital A&E (accident & emergency 急诊室). 如果有, 打电话到你GP的Clinic, 预约, 说你发烧, 能不能get an urgent appointment.

学生一到步, 应该马上登记GP, 没有GP, 你到 A&E 也会麻烦一点.  登记GP也要几周到几个月的时间.

消炎抗生素必须医生处方.

You should ask your colleagues/friends which GP(s) they will recommend.  It can take weeks or months to register for a GP. Without a GP, it is almost impossible for you to get proper medical care here.

To choose a GP, you need to note:
- word of mouth. There are many lousy GPs and specialists here. You don't want to waste your time and money with them.
- whether the GP has a private practice or he/she works in a medical centre (or clinic). In a medical centre or clinic, when your GP is on leave, you can request to see other GPs in the same clinic.  In a private practice, if the GP is not available, you will have to wait (for weeks or months) for your GP to return.
- If you are covered by Medicare (http://www.humanservices.gov.au/ ... s/medicare/medicare) and if the GP practice or medical centre accepts Bulk Bill. That will mean you don't have to pay for the consultation.  However, not many clinics in Tasmania accept Bulk Bill.

To register for a GP, call the practice or clinic and tell them you want to register as a new patient.  You may also ask the receptionist if the practice or clinic accepts Bulk Bill. The receptionist will tell you if they will register you.  If yes, she will book you a time to see a GP and she will guide you through the process.

Many practices and clinics in Launceston these days do not accept new patients.

I am in a hurry to leave the house this morning.  If you or vickygirls85 want an answer in Chinese, please let me know.  I'll do when I have time tonight.

Hi Cecelia,
Thanks again for your thoughtful reply even when you're in a rush..
I'm covered under Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC). Is this similar to Medicare mentioned by you? Do I still pay for the consultation/prescribed medications?

Thanks!

You get your medication from a pharmacy and you have to pay for the prescriptions. I don't know OSHC. I would suggest you to check your insurance company.  详情 回复

Thanks, I got it! My mistake.. I've checked and OSHC actually is just a general term for the health insurance required by all overseas students. UTAS's preferred OSHC provider is Medibank Private.  详情 回复

The website said the insurance covers 100% of the MBS fee for GP.  In this case, if you are registered with a Bulk Bill GP or clinic, you don't have to pay the excess or "gap" as locals call it.  For every general GB consultation, the government will pay the GP $36.30. By Bulk Billing, the GP will only charge $36.30 for the consultation.  However, a lot of GPs here charge much higher.  If the GP charges $66.30 for the consultation, then the gap is $30.00 and you are responsible for the gap (not Medicare or your health insurance company).
