Skilled – Sponsored Visa (subclass 176)

DIAC recently updated its Skilled Migration Programme policy, offering state and territory governments a quota of 500 places to sponsor skilled migrants in occupations not appearing on the base-line list recommended by DIAC. For subclass 176, Tasmania’s policy on using these 500 ‘off-list’ places allows applicants to apply only if their occupation appears on the Supplementary Eligible Occupations List.
Skilled – Regional Sponsored Visa (onshore - subclass 487)
This is a provisional visa of three years and allows the visa holders to live and work in ‘regional’ Australia. The visa provides you with a pathway to permanent residency if you meet all the visa requirements whilst holding the visa. To qualify, you must meet DIAC’s basic requirements and obtain sponsorship from a state or territory government or from an eligible relative living in Australia.
