AN event promoted as Australia's leading vocal festival Tasmania's Festival of Voices opened this week.
The festival has engaged participants through a series of five festival workshop streams, youth; choral voices; songs of Africa; rhythm and blues, gospel and jazz; and a cappela.
Tasmania has played host to internationally acclaimed choirs including the Australian Boys Choir and the Newcastle Chamber Choir, groups including the Melbourne-based all male quartet Suade and Tasmanian artists including Andrew Legg, Maria Lurighi and the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra.
A highlight will be a festival bonfire outside Salamanca Arts Centre in Salamanca Place at 7.30pm on Saturday.
The public are invited to join in a chorus of voices in a hearty sing-along followed by mulled wine and songs in the Salamanca Arts Centre.
The festival finishes on Sunday.
