$100m complex on show
TASMANIANS can expect brands that will accommodate the state's outdoor and adventure culture as well as our thirst for fashion at the new Hobart Capital Outlet + Home set for the Hobart International Airport.
The $100m venture was announced by Hobart International Airport and Perth developer Devwest on Wednesday, but retail leasing company Metier, who will run the centre, has yet to say what stores will fill the complex.
However, Metier CEO Darryll Ashworth yesterday said the brands and products would suit the Tasmanian lifestyle and bring elements of shopping the state has been missing out on.
"Due to a lack of new retail developments in the greater Hobart area, we believe that the Hobart population and to a certain extent the whole of Tasmania are in need of modern, easy access, quality brands to meet their expectations," Mr Ashworth said.
"We will have a focus on sport, adventure wear, shoes, and fashion to meet Hobart's needs."
Metier runs a number of similar shopping complexes around the country, with brands and outlets catering to a variety of trends and products.
The Waterfront City retail complex in Melbourne, one of Metiers most successful leasing ventures, has outlets for Industrie, Politix, Laura Ashley, Katies, Rebel Sport, Sanity, bras N things, Cotton On and Toyworld in its Harbour Town Shopping Complex.
The Cambridge centre will be built in two stages and cover about 57,000 square metres of retail space when completed.
Open parking is planned for behind the front entrance building of the complex.
Mr Ashford said the complex would benefit from lessons learned in recent retail developments.
