Our best no pie in the sky

THE quest for the perfect pie is a never-ending search for Tasmanian lovers of pastry, but you don't ever have to go far to find a good one.

Brighton Bakehouse and Rosetta Store and Bakery have both been recognised with national accolades for their baked delights, along with Richmond Bakery and Jackman & McRoss.

Where is Tassie's best pie? Tell us in the comments below

Brighton Bakehouse was awarded gold, silver and bronze honours for its range of pies in last year's Great Aussie Pie competition and will eye more success at the Baking Association of Australia's search for the country's best pie next month.

"It's a pretty tough gig competing with other Australian bakeries as the quality is so high," Brighton Bakehouse head baker Jason Mizzen said.

"But Tasmania has a great advantage in terms of our produce, which I think is one of the hallmarks of our pie tradition."

Mr Mizzen said Tasmania was well known for its curried scallop pies and it would be one of the big entries for the BAA Best Pie competition.

"We only got bronze for the scallop in the Great Aussie Pie, so I've tweaked the recipe and hopefully we can improve," he said.

And if you think you've got the best pie recipe in Tasmania, the BAA has challenged you to test your mettle in Australia's Best Pie Search.
