This time promoters chose the DEC to host the spiritual leader of Bhuddhism because of its larger seating capacity of 5400.
Tasmania's Chinese Buddhist community leader Master Wang Xin-De said His Holiness's visit was a great honour for Tasmanians and would have a profound impact on everyone.
"It will be very enriching and he will have a very, very important influence," Master Wang said through an interpreter.
"His Holiness the Dalai Lama represents peace and harmony and he will offer that to Tasmanians while he is here." While Master Wang does not have a personal audience with the Dalai Lama, he remains philosophical. "The universe might change that," he said.
However, the University of Tasmania has secured a visit from the Dalai Lama.
The School of Philosophy will host a luncheon celebrating the school's cultural exchange program with a Tibetan university in northern India, which was established more than 10 years ago at the request of the Dalai Lama.
School professor Jeff Malpas said the Dalai Lama would spend about four hours at the private celebration with Tibetan scholars, teachers, graduates and academics. |
