THE parents of an international student allegedly murdered in Hobart will make the trip from China to collect their daughter's body, police say.
The two 21-year-old men charged today with her murder have been remanded in custody.
Police have yet to say how she died.
Detectives say they were led early today to a remote stretch of the Tyenna River, 60km west of Hobart, where the body of Zhang Yu, 26, was found snagged under a tree, partly submerged.
She arrived in Tasmania from China last year and was studying accountancy at the University of Tasmania.
Police had been searching for her since friends reported her missing on Thursday, after she spent a night out in Hobart.
Police allege that a random meeting with two men introduced to her by an acquaintance working in a late-night pizza shop led to Ms Yu's murder in a Hobart unit.
Ms Yu accepted the offer of a lift from the men to return to the CBD from the nearby Sandy Bay pizza shop at about 1.30am (AEST) on Thursday, police said.
They allege she was murdered inside a Hobart unit at about 5am on Thursday and her body was dumped soon after.
Stavros Papadopoulos and Daniel Joseph Williams, both of Hobart, have been charged with murdering Ms Yu, also known as Tina.
Mr Papadopoulos had a black eye when he faced Hobart Magistrates Court.
He and Mr Williams were remanded in custody to reappear in the same court on July 24.
They were not required to enter a plea and did not apply for bail.
Two co-accused, including Mr Papadopoulos's girlfriend, have been charged with failing to report that a person had been killed.
Jazmin Iris Haygarth, 18, who lives with Papadopoulos, and John Edward Mollineaux, 43, who lives near the couple, were bailed to reappear on July 24.
They were not required to enter a plea.
Outside the court Hobart Senior Inspector Peter Powell said Ms Yu's family will come from China to collect her body after examinations are complete. |
