THE killers of Chinese university student Zhang "Tina" Yu have both been sentenced to lengthy jail terms this morning.
Stavros Papadopoulos, 22, of New Town, was sentenced to life in prison with a non-parole period of 25 years for the brutal murder of Yu on June 25 last year.
Justice David Porter also sentenced Daniel Joseph Williams, 22, of Kingston, to 10 years jail for manslaughter with a non-parole period of six years.
Both men have spent a year in custody, which means Williams could be released in five years.
The trail heard that the murder of Yu, 26, a Chinese student studying at the University of Tasmania was horrific and protracted.
The prosecution told how Williams and Papadopoulos had been cruising Hobart looking for women on the night the student was killed.
Papadopoulos allegedly told his friend: "Tonight is one night in a million. I want to kill a bitch tonight."
