One house? Why not take a whole suburb!

[size=0.85em]THE businessman believed to have spent $47 million on a waterfront mansion in Sydney last week could have bought a whole suburb of Hobart for the same price.
According to the Real Estate Institute of Tasmania's median house prices for the three months to June, $47 million would buy almost 100 houses at Rosny (median price $475,000), 250 at Bridgewater ($189,500) or nearly 300 at Gagebrook ($157,750).
For his $47 million, the buyer could have purchased 56 houses in exclusive Battery Point or 77 houses at Sandy Bay.
While Hobart remains the cheapest Australian capital in which to buy, house prices grew 11.96 per cent in the 12 months to June.
Real Estate Institute of Tasmania records show 26 Hobart houses have sold for $1 million or more so far this year, with the most expensive being a Battery Point property that went for $2,975,000.
Friday's realestate.com.au guide in the Mercury listed four Sandy Bay homes asking for offers of more than $1 million – including two asking for at least $1.5 million – plus one $1 million Taroona house, and a large Bruny Island property for $1.7 million.
On Friday businessman Geoffrey Cousins put two 40ha lots of land at Crescent Bay, in the state's South-East, up for sale – with a price tag of $1 million each.
