Police monitor Derwent whale

MARINE police are monitoring a whale in the River Derwent at Sandy Bay.

It is believed to be a southern right whale and was first spotted in the river yesterday.

It is currently in the waters between Manning Reef and Wrest Point Casino.

A police boat is close by, keeping an eye on the mammal.
