A man who sexually assaulted a Chinese student and left her to die on a Perth street has been jailed for life with a minimum term of 18 years.
Dannie Adam Wright, 36, was found guilty of murdering 22-year-old student Jiao Dan as she walked home from Stirling train station in October 2007.
She was bashed, choked and sexually assaulted with a bottle and died from internal injuries and pneumonia.
Wright had been released from jail the day before the offences and denies any involvement.
In Perth's Supreme Court today, Wright was handed a life sentence.
Justice Michael Murray described the offence as the most serious kind imaginable.
Wright's sentence was backdated to when he was taken into custody in October 2007. |
